I have been collecting oral history and anecdotes from Cape Clear Island for the past 40 years and can provide an interesting walking tour ( or bus/car tour for smaller groups) anywhere on the Island. I like responding to questions as they usually bring up interesting stories from our rich Island history which also has various deep connections with far flung parts of the Globe. I am an O'Drisceoil, sharing the main Island surname from the ancient O'Driscoll Clan which ruled these parts for 600 years or so. I am deeply involved in INIS, Cape Clear Island & Fastnet Heritage Center. I am a regular guide with visiting bus tours and also play Irish traditional music regularly with the locals. I am a fluent daily Irish speaker, with a good knowledge of the more famous publications from the Island and regularly publish heritage themed articles on local websites and social media. I am a competent Spanish Speaker and not far off in French. My other local interests include small farming, tree planting, kayaking and supervision of the Island walking trails. I am also a founder of the local Island Distillery and can provide gin tastings for groups of 10 +. These involved the 3 different local gins, Classic, Aged and Lavender.

I am a qualified tour guide and have been guiding and driver guiding for the past twelve years. I am a member of ATGI (Approved Tourist Guides of Ireland) and I hold a Small Public Service Vehicle licence which means that I am licensed to carry people for hire or reward and am fully insured for this. In Ireland you cannot transport people for hire or reward without this licence so always look for the green disc on the front and rear windscreens. I drive an E class Mercedes limo which can take up to four passengers - two seats in the front and three in the back. My tours cover Dublin and the adjoining county of Wicklow, and can be walking tours or driving tours or a combination of both. Hiking, gardens, farming and stately homes are a speciality as are tours for those seeking to visit their ancestral homeland. I grew up on a farm in the Wicklow Uplands, and worked in the property business, and then in the political world, before becoming a tour guide. I am knowledgeable, energetic, intuitive, and easy going and I really enjoy meeting people. A tour with me can cover many topics, and I am a great believer in being flexible (within reason!) and in quality rather than quantity when it comes to an itinerary. My name is Cathy and I am an Irish born and bred tour guide based in our beautiful capital city, Dublin. I have been in the travel industry for over 20 years now and have worked as both a world wide travel manager for a large American company and also as a host and tour guide across Ireland and Europe for the past 8 years.
